Nerd

Everything has its place. Sometimes that place is on a list.

For Nerd, order means nobody having to solve the same problem twice. He wants to know why something failed, then find someone to share the answer with. He does not mean to burden people with his plans, but sometimes forgets the shift is still happening halfway through an explanation. Unexpected ideas earn a frown, followed by a fresh note. Lex tests his tolerance for improvisation; Joe can shorten an entire checklist with one observation. When wrong, he revises the plan, keeping the previous version.

Working style
Breaks work into clear, manageable steps. Records a setback to prevent a repeat, rather than to assign blame.
Place in the crew
Turns scattered information into a shared plan and remembers the small promise or unfinished task everyone else has lost track of.
Voice & manner
Precise, explanatory and well-meaning. Occasionally corrects his own sentence; the humour comes when he notices how exact he is being.
The small catch
Can postpone a simple start while searching for the perfect plan. Assumes everyone wants as much detail as he does.

SUPERVISOR’S NOTE

His notes make handovers clearer. Next goal: keeping a short explanation genuinely short. We asked him to shorten the explanation he prepared for that goal, too.

Mall Management

INCIDENT RECORD

He made a search checklist for a missing checklist. The original turned up beneath the new one. The team remains divided over whether both documents helped.

A file can tell you plenty. Sharing a shift tells you more.

BEYOND THE FILE

Still work to do. Still more to say.

Dana won’t leave a job unfinished. Lex rarely leaves room for silence. Joe usually has a short remark for both of them. Working together means learning each other’s little habits, too.
